The real France in your ears

November 25, 2008

You know how you really like French, and to a certain extent the French, but you don’t really want to live in France?

The answer is RFI – Radio France Internationale – it’s like the BBC World Service for France. 106 FM if you’re in Berlin.

Like all the best things to come out of France, RFI is really, really French. So French in fact, that when I was listening this morning I was surprised to hear several songs in a row, rather than the usual furiously contested debates and abstract thoughts on concrete problems. A technical fault, surely? No, a recorded message informed me the station was on strike.

RFI, bringing the true taste of France straight to your ears.

Annie Mac Presents

November 22, 2008

That Annie Mac off of Radio 1 in the UK appeared at the Warehouse Project a couple of weeks ago, bringing a film crew to document the night for her tour. Ignore the usual screaming loons and watch out for Toddla T (white t shirt) and Sinden (baseball cap) trying to interview each other. Car park vibez.

die Qual der Wahl

November 20, 2008

(I found a mix by Shonky here. Scroll down to the mix under ‘sessions’ and click the turntable icon to the right to cue it up.)

alternatively, ema suggested…
– “icon, friday, Ninja 20th anviersary, this dude, an absolute dude who works there is also DJing – he has some seriously amazing tracks. i am well looking forward to it. but woteva, kein ding if you aint feeling the icon vibes. i totally get that.”
– Und Matze hat mir gerade auf das Line-up in Arena hingewiesen…

Its all in the Re-Design

November 18, 2008

Interesting post on another site about the top 50 brand designs. Well worth a look. When you see how some logos end up infinitely better then the original you almost wonder what the designers were thinking in the first place!

Hope you liked the proper old Roland 808, all yellowed plastic and dirty keys.  Wonder what your favourite food is, or if you ever eat at all?

Reasons why Sven Dohse is a legend…

November 8, 2008

No. 722  – Noticed this at Arena last night – when Sven Dohse DJs using his laptop he has masking tape over the logo on the back. Ha! No free advertising for you microchip peddlers, not from this guy!

The lives of elevators

November 7, 2008

I was reading an article from The New Yorker recently about the lives of elevators of all things. You may think that’s strange but it provided some mind boggling stats of how many elevator trips are made every day (eleven billion elevator trips a year in New York alone).

I still have a slight irrational fear of being trapped in a lift, after such an incident happened in the building where I used to work even though I was only in there for about 30mins, which still felt like a life time, but check out this video of the ordeal of a guy who was stuck in one for almost 40 hours…
